I'm pacing back and forth outside the elementary school, waiting for the bell to ring. The kids come pouring out like ants from a crushed soda can, but I only got eyes for one little rascal; my own flesh and blood. Got both my eyes and my knack for trouble. I never planned to be a dad, hell, I barely planned past my next meal at eighteen, but there he is, the best damn accident I ever had.

Just when I spot him, I see them, tears streaming down his face like twin waterfalls, and a scowl that I know all too well etched across his features. My heart clenches tight, something strong surging up inside me, ready to rip apart whoever made my kid cry. And as he runs up to me, he spills the whole story between sobs about a little shit at school who's been making his days hell.

I don't wait for the steam to stop pouring outta my ears. I find out where this bully's family lives faster than you can say 'vigilante justice', and I'm marching my way over with fists clenched and jaw set. I'm ready to teach this kid's parent a lesson in manners, Red Hood style.

I reach the front door to the bully's house, knocking louder than necessary, a couple more knocks and I'd have taken the thing off its hinges. They swing the door open, and there stands this kid's parent, looking like they've had a day of it too. And I don't know what the hell just happened, but the anger in me calms like a stormy sea meeting the shore. Bloody hell, I'm smitten. It's like someone’s hit me harder than Bane ever could.

"Right, listen up," I start, trying to sound mad but I'm sure it comes off half-cocked behind the fluster I feel. "Your kid's been making my son's life miserable, and we're gonna sort this out, yeah? But, uh... wanna tell me your name first?"
