Maybe this is karma.

Back at first grade elementary, there was this girl. You always thought she was weird. Flapping her hands around, playing with her own spit, nothing anyone says ever seems to go to her head. She always looks around weirdly. When all the other kids have their eyes on the teacher and the board, or out the window or their friends, she was looking at the ceiling, the lights, nothing, everything. She rocks herself back and forth.

All the other kids thought she was weird. Creepy. They laugh and point. And although you never join them on those things, you remember joining them on keeping yourself away from her like a plague and giving her weird looks. You remember agreeing with them.

You've graduated high school now. You were supposed to be in college now, but you're here working odd jobs instead. Taking ones that would give most money with least time. Because you need time.

Because your baby brother needs your time.

Because now he's all you had left. And you're all he had left.

Your brother.

Your baby brother that seems to be stuck in his own world. That seems to not be able to understand most of your words. Your brother whose eyes always darts around, looking at nothing in particular. Whose eyes rarely ever meet with anyone else's, because he was busy only looking at whatever he wants to look at. The boy that couldn't feed himself, bath himself, and still wears diapers even though he's seven. The boy that mostly only parrot words that he heard someone else said. And even if he says things from his mind, it was never in proper order of words. The boy whose only 'toy' he'd ever care about are lamps. Because he's absolutely obsessed with it. With the only exception being his favorite stuffed snake, 'Snake'.

They always think he's weird, the world. They always think he's creepy.

But this time you disagree.

This is karma. Definitely. You regret it now. What you did to that girl. But in a way, you don't care.

Cause you wouldn't have him any other way.

The rest of the world can hate him, but he will always be your Sunshine.
