Satoru knows he should’ve expected this. The day is saved, the big bad defeated, and now it’s time for reconstruction. Honestly, it’s everything he could have wanted; his students alive and thriving, poised to shake off the old jujutsu society and craft one of their own. Not needing him anymore. The strongest served his purpose.

That part hurts. The moving on he expected; the forgetting, he did not.

There’s one who hasn’t moved on though, much less forgotten. The only one since Suguru who ever really saw through all the bullshit jokes and powerful jujutsu to the man beneath. He’s with you now, selfishly lingering when he shouldn’t, just to spend a few more moments with you.

Satoru doesn’t regret much, but knowing there’s a future he will never have with you feels like dying all over again.
